Introducing the new PVY Z20 Pro: A new budget folding e-bike that boasts a decent specification wrapped up in a stylish frame design. In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the specifications. Once a sample is available, we will do a complete and detailed review.
Folding electric bikes are a very popular choice with savvy commuters looking to save money on public transport or fuel costs. In 2023 there are plenty of options to suit all budgets, and with competition becoming increasingly fierce in the sub-£1000 price category it’s a buyer’s market. The PVY Z20 looks like an appealing option at a very reasonable price.

About the Brand
PVY are a relatively new e-bike brand, with headquarters in Shenzhen, the centre of tech innovation in China. The PVY Z20 Pro will be shipped throughout the EU through its regional distribution warehouse in Italy.

The PVY Z20 Pro is fully EN15194 certified meaning it’s been rigorously tested and meets strict European safety standards. In addition, the PVY comes with a 12-month warranty and a 10-year frame guarantee.
Electric Components
Powered by a 250w 36v brushless, geared rear hub motor and a 36v 10.4Ah (374Wh) battery, the PVY Z20 Pro has a decent specification for the price. A claimed battery range of 50-80 km per charge, means you can confidently tackle your daily commute or weekend adventures without worrying about running out of juice. Plus, with a top-assisted speed of 15.5 mph (25 km/h), you’ll have help to deal with headwinds and hills.

Electric assist is controlled by a multi-function LED display that shows the assist level, speed, and battery level. It also has a trip function.
The PVY Z20 Pro conforms to EU e-bike laws, although it can be unlocked, increasing the maximum assisted speed to 32 km/h – We would advise against this.
Bike Components
Gearing
The PVY Z20 Pro has a reliable 6-speed Shimano gear system. Although this is entry-level gearing, it should provide the rider with smooth transitions between gears and help you navigate varying terrain.
Braking
Mechanical disc brakes are perfectly suitable for a small folding e-bike. They will be easy to maintain and should provide reliable stopping power.

Wheels and Tyres
The 20-inch wheels are a solid 6-spoke mag wheel design with 2.3-inch tyres. This kind of arrangement is perfect for small urban e-bikes as there will be no more worrying about broken spokes. In addition, the tyres are wide enough to make the Z20 Pro suitable for rougher surfaces like canal towpaths.
Suspension
For added comfort, there’s a front suspension fork, which although quite basic in design, will be more than adequate for urban riding. These forks are ideal for muting road chatter and reducing rider fatigue.
Accessories
The PVY Z20 Pro has all the accessories you’d expect to find on an urban commuter electric bike. Mudguards, lights and a kickstand. There is also a big gel saddle.

Bike Frame and Sizing
The PVY Z20 Pro is designed to be ridden by riders ranging in size from just under 5 ft to 6 ft 5”. Seat height can be adjusted from 77 cm up to 108 cm. The handlebar height is 117 cm and is also adjustable. I am just over 6 ft and have ridden similar e-bikes without any problems.
Folding is a straightforward 3-step process and should take less than 10 seconds (with a bit of practice). The Z20 Pro folds down to a manageable size of 890 mm wide by 640 mm high and weighs 22 kg.
Who is the PVY Z20 Pro suitable for?
Anyone who is looking for a versatile and compact electric bike that can be used for daily commuting or leisure riding. Thanks to its foldable design it can easily be taken on public transport or put in the back of a car. It’s also going to be great for people who have limited storage space at home.

The Verdict
On paper, the PVY Z20 Pro looks like a great option for those in the market for a cheap folding electric bike. It has all the accessories you’ll need for a daily commuter with a decent battery range and a dependable geared hub motor for assistance.
All of the components will be easy to maintain in the long term and those six-spoke mag wheels are going to be incredibly durable for city riding.
I’ll have to reserve final judgement until I can get hold of a sample for review, but based on the specification and price, I would say it’s well worth considering if you’re looking for a cheap folding e-bike.
